Preparing Your Wedding Liturgy
Ministry - assisting the liturgy
Preparing your Wedding Liturgy
In addition to yourselves, the Priest and a congregation you will need people to be various liturgical ministers. Some of these will be drawn from friends and family; others will be part of the service of the local parish. You will need some of the following:
- reader(s) — for the First and Second Readings, and the Prayer of the Faithful
- server(s) — to assist the Priest
- musician(s) — organist, cantor, choir, soloist
- commissioned minister of the Eucharist — for when Mass is celebrated to help with the distribution of Holy Communion
- Procession of Gifts — for when Mass is celebrated
The aim should be to choose people who will know what they are doing and will fulfil their ministry well. Be careful about choosing people for reasons other than their ability. Great Uncle Fred may be your favourite Uncle who brought the two of you together but if the reading is mumbled and inaudible it will not add to the joy or solemnity of the occasion. If someone reads well but has not read in Church before there is a leaflet (pdf) will some advice.
